REF: USERNAM 24 May 1993
Changing Notework User Names
Notework generates user names by copying the "full name" field from the
Novell bindery if available, and copying the "login name" otherwise.
If this is undesirable, then the Notework user name can be modified
using NWSYSCON.
1. Login as Supervisor or equivalent.
2. Use the REMOVENW utility to Remove Notework if it is in memory.
3. Change directories to the Notework system directory, usually
SYS:\PUBLIC\NOTEWORK.
4. Run NWSYSCON.
5. You are at the "Upgrade Existing Installation" screen.
Press <F2> "add or remove users".
6. Choose <F1> "First name" or <F2> "First initial + last name",
depending on the style of Novell usernames at your site.
7. Highlight the Notework username to change.
8. There is a cursor to the right of the last letter in the first name.
Use the left and right arrow keys to move between columns. Use the
<Backspace> key to delete characters to the left. Type in new
characters as needed.
9. Repeat Steps 7 and 8 on other names to be changed.
10. Press <F10> to leave this screen and cause the changes to occur.
Press <F9> to leave this screen, abandoning changes.
11. When asked whether to modify login scripts, press <F2> to skip the
step. (You have not added any new users.) You are returned to the
same screen seen in Step 5.
12. Choosing <F10> "Exit to DOS" starts the housekeeping phase, where
the requested changes are actually written to the user list file.
Notework will not allow duplicate names, and will therefore not allow
you to move the highlight bar off the second name until you have
changed it. Changing a single character of the duplicate Notework name
will allow you to move the highlight bar.
If you have custom Notework groups, the above procedure will *not* change
the names as entered in GROUPS.DEF. You will need to bring GROUPS.DEF into
a text editor and change all occurrences of the old name to the new name.
More details are given under the topic "Revising Notework Custom Groups".
===== Sorting Order of Names =====
Names are displayed in alphabetical order in the "To Whom?" list and Address
Book, sorted on whichever column you highlight. You may use some punctuation
characters to control the sorting. The special character would go at the
beginning of the first name to affect the sorting in the first name column,
or at the beginning of the last name to affect the sorting of the last name
column (second column of "To Whom?" list). By placing a special character at
the beginning of names of VIPs, those names can be at the top (or bottom) of
the list. Use + for the top and _ (underscore) for the bottom.
